This is a soon to be completed commission piece based on the image of jesus in the book of Revelations. I wanted to show a work progression from early stage to near finish.
a little about the painting: after reading the passage, I decided I wanted to create a literal image. the description, as you can see from the image, is...interesting...but rather than try to interpret the imagery and symbolism to create a more realistic picture, I chose to portray the symbolism literally. In this way, the image becomes more symbolic (not to sound redundant), visually interesting, and lends itself well to a style akin to classic tarot imagery. this gives it a more spiritual, albeit occult, context that I found appropriate considering the nature of the source passage and image: a prophetic vision.
The colors in the latter three pictures is off due to the nighttime lighting and lack of a quality camera at the moment. I'll post a picture of the final piece with accurate colors when it's finished.
